Penis Maintenance

There is surprisingly little written about penis care. No, I’m not talking about how to amuse a penis and its owner. I’m talking about things men can do to support penis health. I’m not an authority on the subject, and I can only report on what I’ve found helpful. What works for me may not work for you. If in doubt, consult your doctor before proceeding.

I’ve noticed two things that have changed over the years. The first is that, on occasion, I find myself squirting a little urine before I reach the toilet. This is considered normal by some doctors. It can also be a symptom of a weak pelvic floor (kegel). Since this can be a sign of a medical problem, it’s a very good idea to check with your doctor.

If there is no medical condition, a kegel exerciser can work wonders. I found myself with this embarrassing problem. I began wearing pads in my underpants. After research, I learned that the ability to control when I pee is a function of the condition of my pelvic floor. Women have the same issue and treat it with a kegel exerciser that they insert into the vagina. We men can exercise our pelvic floors in two ways, The first is to do “exercises.”

First, while peeing, practice stopping and starting the flow. Note how you did it. You were contracting your pelvic floor. Once you understand what you did, you can exercise and strengthen the muscle. Pretend you are stopping the flow and hold it for ten seconds. Release and wait ten seconds. Repeat. Do this for five minutes, twice a day. Don’t overdo it. You can get a muscle ache down there.

If you are like me and prefer a lazier approach, you can use a kegel exerciser machine. These are available on Amazon for about $100. You will also need an anal probe. This thin probe sends electrical pulses from the kegel machine into your pelvic floor. The programs in the machine exercises it. Each session is thirty minutes. It’s easy to use and you can do other things while the machine works.

I’ve used both methods with good results. I prefer the electronic kegel machine, but that’s just me. The important thing is that you consider this important male exercise.

Erection support

Erections are caused by blood flooding spongy tissue inside of our penises. The quality of our erections depends on several factors. One is blood pressure. If blood pressure is low, erections won’t be as firm as we might like. That is a medical issue to be discussed with your doctor.

As we age, the spongy tissue inside our penises becomes less flexible and doesn’t “inflate” as easily as it did when we were younger. According to my reading, our penises will lose about 1/2 inch in length and not be as thick when erect. This is no big deal but shows that we are losing flexibility. One fairly safe method of restoring flexibility is penis pumping.

A penis pump is a device that produces a vacuum around the penis. That draws blood into the penis and produces an erection inside the device. The pump pulls blood in and causes the spongy tissue to stretch. That can help restore flexibility. Too much pumping can damage the tissue and hurt erection quality.

There are lots of penis pumps on the market. Most are sold with claims that they will enlarge your penis by inches. They won’t. I like my battery-powered electric pump. It was reasonably priced (about $40) and controls the degree of vacuum it pulls. This will help prevent damage. I use mine for about ten minutes a day. If I feel any pain, I immediately stop the machine and use a lower setting. Pumping should be comfortable. It won’t necessarily feel sexy, but it shouldn’t put you in pain. After about a month, I’ve noticed that there is an increase in thickness and length. It’s no big deal, but I feel good about it.
