Floppy Implement Weekend

On the way to work this morning I was thinking about the tawse I used on Lion last night. I don’t like it. There’s nothing wrong with the quality. It’s well made and it does deliver a mean message. The problem is with me.

First of all, it’s too long. I choke up on it past the handle to make it more manageable. I’m sure I could get used to it, but for now I’m trying to have a little more control over where those tails land. When Lion was “training” me how to use different implements, he made it seem like he would be irreparably damaged if the cane hit anywhere but that sweet spot right there, or if the flogger wrapped around him. From pictures and videos I’ve seen since then, it seems thighs, the back, sides, anywhere is fair game. However, I still try to stay within the confines he set forth all those years ago.

Second, I like knowing where I’m hitting. I know Lion won’t shrivel up and die if I miss my mark, but if I’m aiming for that spot and I wind up way over there I’m not happy. Lion isn’t either, but that’s besides the point. I think that’s why I usually stick to paddles. I’m pretty sure that solid thing is going to land where I want it to land. Floppy things like floggers and straps seem to have minds of their own. I aim there and they wind up somewhere else.

There is a “cure” for this. I can get a tawse/strap/flogger that’s the correct length, for starters. I do have smaller floggers, but they are not as heavy and must feel like a mosquito landing on Lion. The other thing I can do is keep practicing. So what if I land the occasional errant hit. Lion’s got a tough butt. He can take it. Practice makes perfect. Maybe we need a floppy implement weekend. I’ll have to pencil Lion in.

[Lion – I think we can fix this. My thighs and butt are open territory. I will help Mrs. Lion with technique. “Choking up” on a tawse isn’t a good idea. I think that I have to be in a different location. There has to be enough room for a full swing.”]
